A couple of days ago, GENI sent me a message that it was my Father’s birthday on Saturday. Yesterday, my Mom sent me a message through her Facebook profile, and two of my cousins from England just added me as their ‘Friend’. Staying in-touch has gone high-tech, and easy.

I am embarrassed to admit this, but it was my Aunt from England who first introduced me to Facebook. Of course, I knew about it, but I thought it was a place where teens and college kids hung-out - not us ‘old folks’. So, when I added myself as a ‘Friend’ to my Aunt, guess who I see as her friend? My Mom! She was on Facebook before me?!? Now I really feel out-of-touch with the virtual world - and there’s nothing like a little competition to get me going. So I started poking around and found a lot of my family was already on Facebook. It made sense too as my family live not just all over the US but in England too. Now it’s easy to stay in-touch - no need to remember their email or physical addresses - just add them as a Friend in Facebook and I have instant connection! Cousins I haven’t talked to since I was 18 are now sending me ‘Hugs’, photos of their kids, and we’ve felt closer than we ever have before!

I’ve also spoke of GENI before, but it’s worth saying again: GENI is awesome! GENI is an online family-tree software. When I last wrote about it I only had our immediate family, but thanks to some of our elder family members - our tree has grown tramendously and we now have family members (along with their photograph) from as far back as the 1800s! I would have never known!

The Internet is coming-up with new ways to stay-in-touch everyday - so don’t be afraid, jump-in and enjoy the connection!
